Plans

   Posted by: Shane   in Life

We can’t help but make plans. It’s wise to look ahead and prepare ourselves for whatever we think lies ahead. The only problem with planning is that we don’t know what lies ahead.

Proverbs 16:9
In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps.
Proverbs 19:21
Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the LORD’s purpose that prevails.

The Lord, however, does know what lies ahead and he has promised to complete his work in us (Philippians 1:6) for the exact purpose for which he created us (Ephesians 2:10).

Psalm 33:11
But the plans of the LORD stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations.

So, the fact that we don’t know everything that is in front of us is ok because we can know the One who does. He determines our steps and He sets the time for us to walk forward into His plan.

Jeremiah 29:10-12
This is what the LORD says: “When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will come to you and fulfill my gracious promise to bring you back to this place. For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.

God loves us with the ultimate love and that includes his plan to prosper us. Not necessarily as the world defines prosperity, but the type of prosperity that makes Jesus the love of our lives and with that God promises to give us all things (Romans 8:32).

I love the fact that my plans will always be trumped by the One who’s plan is best.

Shane,

Yet another excellent post and reminder to all of us that life is filled with the right outcomes when we actively participate in God’s plan for our lives.

It took way too long for me to figure this out, but it is clear to me now that without exception, the frustrations, disappointments and fears in my life have alway been about life not succumbing to MY plans. Not about the worthiness, value, good intentions,or soundness of my plans, but the simple fact that I was relying solely on MY perceived purpose and goals for my life.

God does not promise that His plan for my life will be free of struggle, difficult challenges, and even pain, but He does promise that His plan guarantees a life that is meaningful and brings glory to Him.

And when I find myself in diligent pursuit of fulfilling His plan, nothing compares to the warmth of His smile surrounding my every action.

Shane,

Jeremiah 29:11-13 have kind of been family life verses for the Estes’. I love how it tell us in v. 13 that we will find Him if we are seeking Him with our whole heart. If we are seeking after the heart of God, we will truly understand the prosperity He has planned for us.

Thanks for the post!
