We started our last Senior Management Team meeting by listening to Andy Stanley’s last message from this year’s Drive Conference. Andy structured his message around five quotes (I believe I’ve got the last names correct) and offered a “take away” from each. I recommend listening to the message as he offers a lot of very challenging thoughts around each quote. Here are the quotes and take aways:
1. “Do things no one else is doing to reach people no one else is reaching.” – Groeschel
Take Away: Become preoccupied with those you haven’t reached instead of those you’re trying to keep.
2. “The next generation product almost never comes from the previous generation.” – Reese
Take Away: Be a student not a critic.
3. “What do I believe is impossible to do in my field, but if I could do would revolutionize my field?” – Barker
Take Away: Pay attention to people who are breaking the rules.
4. “If we got kicked out of our company for a new CEO, what would they do? Why shouldn’t we walk out of the door, come back in and do it ourselves?” – Groh
Take Away: Ask what isn’t working and own up to why I’m not willing to do anything about it.
5. “When your memories exceed your dreams, the end is near.” – Bentley
Take Away: Don’t let success or momentum overshadow your vision. Keep the vision out in front.
