I was listening a podcast from The Resurgence Conference and John Piper drops this statement in his answer to the question, “How do we (pastors) move toward relevance?” (in the context of todays culture):

“Stay as close to this (holding up a bible) ultimate reality as you can because its really really relevant… Relevance is this ultimate reality lived out with passion in front of people in an authentic way.”

Popular culture has and will continue to redefine and repackage itself for as long as this world exists in its current form. That being so, it will always be easy to get pulled into an idea of current relevance and in the process lose perspective on the “ultimate reality”. Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13:8). Jesus will always be profoundly relevant regardless of the current culture. Therefore, those of us who follow him will always have something relevant to offer our culture.
