Like the Sun (and Son)

II Sam 23:3-4:
The God of Israel spoke,
the Rock of Israel said to me:
‘When one rules over men in righteousness,
when he rules in the fear of God,
he is like the light of morning at sunrise
on a cloudless morning,
like the brightness after rain
that brings the grass from the earth.

I remember reading through this passage about this time last year and being smacked in the face. God would not let me leave these words and I wondered why. “Ok, God, what am I missing?” Then like a tidal wave it hit me… if I am leading like Jesus then those I lead will be glad to see me. They will be refreshed and ready to grow when I am around. They will not dread my presence. They will actually look forward to seeing me… especially if they are coming out of a tough situation. They know that even when it is dark in their world I’ll come looking for them. I come looking to bring life and not destruction. I come bringing hope and not despair.

My wife should expect that, shouldn’t she?
My kids should feel that, shouldn’t they?
My team should know that, shouldn’t they?

If I want to be like the morning sun (or like the Son) then I must lead like this.

I don’t believe this requires me to overlook times where I need to correct or challenge. The sun soaks up the morning dew and the Son soaked up my sin. Neither element (dew/sin) ignored but processed and dealt with by the one who could do something about it.

My wife should have this, does she?
My kids should experience this, do they?
My team should believe this, do they?

Being like the sun and the Son is not based on circumstances. The sun rises everyday regardless of what happened the night before and the Son is risen no matter what happened the night before.
