Nothing Original

Posted by: Shane   in Leadership, Life

Everyone one wants to be original. I’m no exception. There is just one problem… it’s not possible. We can be new, fresh, current, distinct, cutting edge, challenging and even unique… but not original.

So, to be clear, I will not be offering anything original on this site. I don’t have anything original. No one does.

All originality ended when God rested on the seventh day. Everything else is a derivative of His creation. To really be original one must create something from nothing and only God is capable of that action. We can’t really create… we can only uncover and discover.

Unlike some, I believe Solomon (via the inspiration of the Holy Spirit) got it right… There is nothing new under the Sun (Ecclesiastes 1:9).

For me, this is freeing. To realize that the pressure of coming up with something original that will change the world or my marriage or my parenting skills or my ability to lead my team or just my daily life isn’t on me.

It was on Jesus.

God creates… God gives…I discover…

My role as a leader is not to invent something to take my family or my team to the next level, it is simply to discover and implement what Jesus would have done in the same situation.

Do I turn over tables or do I wash feet? The question I must ask myself is, “What does leadership demand, right now?”

As this blog develops you will not find anything original. You will simply be invited to take a look at the some of the life and leadership lessons I have learned as I have tried to quit being original and simply do what leadership demands.
